I have an old singer sewing machine but can’t find power cord, 1955 Series AM 878224, how could I find/buy it?

Saturday, September 4th, 2010

This machine was my Mother’s old sewing machine, she thinks she bought it in 1953, but I think according to the series numbers it is from 1958. There is a round space where the power cord plugs into the side of the machine, looks like an antique type of connection. Everything else is in case, foot pedal, etc.; everything but the power cord we need. Help??

An old, light green singer sewing machine?

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

My mom just gave me my grandma’s old sewing machine. Ive been trying to figure out how to thread it for a while now and i just cant figure it out. i don’t know the model or anything but its really old, light green, and it’s a singer. If you could help me that would be great!
shes with me. haha. its a lot different then the newer sewing machines that ive used before. i know how to thread those. this one looks nothing like the sewing machines they have out now.

Go to http://www.singerco.com/support/model_number.html
and use the photos to locate the model number. You can then go to http://www.sewusa.com and find a threading diagram to help you.

If sewusa doesn’t have that model, look for models with close-ish numbers and see if those diagrams make sense. Or google the model number and "manual" Or call 1 800 4 singer and ask for a manual.

PS: if it’s been sitting around for awhile, the first item on the agenda should be a good cleaning (use a vacuum, not compressed air) and oiling (with sewing machine oil, not WD-40 or 3 in 1)

I am looking for the instruction manual for an old sewing machine Jones D66, any idea where I’d find one?

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

An old electric sewing machine in working order, Jones Model D66, has lost it’s instruction manual. I would like to find one so that I can use the machine.

Here’s a website where I found a manual for one of my old machines
relics@sewing-machine-manuals.com
or type in "sewing machine manuals" in search box on your toolbar.
There’s another one called Allbrands.com…they have parts and manuals.
Also try to do a search by brand name and model no of the machine.Good luck

SMH How does a sewing machine work?

A Singer shuttle bobbin shows how it sews. See the old girl show her stuff as she sews like she always did. This is a 1920’s Singer K model if I am not mistaken. I got it for $10 at a Habitat store. It had thread in and ready to sew after decades of sitting.
