Can someone please tell me the value of this antique sewing machine?

Saturday, September 4th, 2010

It’s a 1936 Singer Sewing Machine
Serial Number AE094.442
PLEASE help me!

You’ve got a Singer 15:

of which there are multitudes still around and sewing (I have a 1954 Centennial 15, perfect working order, for which I paid $10)

Unless you run into a collector and the machine is in perfect condition, figure $0-50, and probably in the $0-20 range.

My dog keeps licking the legs of our antique sewing machine. All I can think of is that he’s acking a mineral?

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

I have already tried giving him a vitamin/mineral supplement as well as iron. Have no idea what’s going on.

There is something on the legs that is appealing to him. Wash the legs with soap and water to discourage him. You don’t say how long this has been going on, but I would do it asap, just in case. In the meantime, keep him away from the machine. Try giving him a kong toy with peanut butter stuffed inside it to distract him.

Where would I find a manual or instructions for an antique sewing machine besides Singer site?

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Someone gave me Singer Model 99K from the 50’s. It is in good working order. I remember using one as a kid with my mother. I just don’t remember everything. I tried the Singer site and no luck. I tried Ebay. I wonder if there is anywhere else to try.

http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html — Singer considers manuals to be "parts". Both 99 and 99k manuals there for free download, or paper for purchase.

BTW, you need to wait a while longer before your machine is an antique… more than 100 years old is the usual definition of antique. You have a "vintage machine".

If you’d like to learn more about taking care of it, you might join the yahoo group "wefixit".

Where can I find the model number of an antique sewing machine?

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

We have an antique singer treadle machine passed down for 4 generations This machine is in its own cabinet that hides away, has a leather belt and is black with ornate front silver plate. I am trying to locate a manual but can not find the model number. The bobbin door has patent dates starting in 1891 to 1903. Can anyone tell me what model this might be? thanks

Guess what – http://www.ismacs.net/sewing_machine_articles/how_much_is_my_sewing_machine_worth.html will not provide an estimate of the machine’s worth, if that is what you are trying to find.

You need to locate someone who evaluates old sewing machines.
